Background: GSTT1 gene polymorphism is a type of deletion polymorphism, located in 22q11.23 chromosome, which can disrupt drug metabolism in the body. The purpose of this research is to provide preliminary data to know about GSTT1 gene polymorphism among Melayu ethnic group in South Sumatera. Method: The method used in this research is Polymerase chain reaction on GSTT1 gene on 40 samples in Biomolecular laboratory of Sriwijaya Faculty of Medicine. Result: GSTT1 gene polymorphism among Melayu ethnic group is 16.67%, where women have a higher percentage of 11.11% than men with only a percentage of 5.56%. Conclusion: The proportion of GSTT1 gene polymorphism among Melayu ethnic group is 16.67%, where women experience more null allele than men.
