  • Preparation and Characterization of Submicro Particles PLGA and PVA Carrier of Ethanol Extract of Bitter Melon Fruit (Momordica charantia. L) by Emulsion Solvent Evaporation Method Tio Kurnia Ibnu Wibisono 08061381320017 ABSTRACT Bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia. L) is a vegetable that can be used for consumtion medicine throughout Asia. Young bitter melon contains several metabolites alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and saponins. It is known that flavonoid levels in young bitter melon fruit were 18.807±1.085 QE/g, while alkaloids were 15.568±1.284 AE/g. Preparation of drug preparations is done by coating using PLGA and PVA polymers in the submicro particles. PLGA is a natural polymer that acts as a cationic. This cationic properties of PLGA can interact with anionic compounds in PVA through linking and become particles in submicro size. The submicro component consisted of extracts young bitter melon fruit, PLGA, and PVA using variations of PVA of 40 mg, 50 mg, and 60 mg. The third formula produces encapsulation efficiency (EE) of 89.075±0.055%, 86.019±0.086%, and 84.091±0.117%, respectively. The results of submicro characterization of particles such as diameter and particle distribution (Poly Dispersity Index / PDI), and zeta potential using a particle size measuring device (PSA) at the optimum formula is 931.3 nm; 0.328; and +25.6 mV.
