  • The synthesis of layered double hydroxide (LDH) Ca/Fe and Mg/Fe have been done. The layered double hydroxide (LDH) Ca/Fe and Mg/Fe were characterized by spektrofotometer FT-IR and XRD. Then, layered double hydroxide Ca/Fe and Mg/Fe were used as adsorbent of congo red dye. Characterization by FT-IR showed the vibration stretch layered double hydroxide Ca/Fe and Mg/Fe that appear of O-H at 3410.15 cm-1, Ca-O and Fe-O at 470.63 cm-1 and 586.36 cm-1 for layered double hydroxide Ca/Fe and O-H vibration stretch at 3448.72 cm-1, Mg-O and Fe-O at 347.19 cm-1 and 586.35 cm-1 for layered double hydroxide Mg/Fe. The XRD diffraction was showed in 2θ at 10̊ with the basal spasing of Ca/Fe is 8.08 Ǻ and Mg/Fe is 7.80 Ǻ. The adsorption process of congo red dye in layered double hydroxide compatible using pseudo-second-order equation. The Freundlich equation more suitable than Langmuir equation for congo red adsorption of layered double hydroxide Ca/Fe and Mg/Fe. Gibbs free energy (G) has negative value that showed the adsorption process occurs spontaneously and exothermic reactions as physical adsorption.
