- This investigation is focused on the effect of cutting speed, feeding and depth of cut which is set equal to the value of the results obtained in the measurement of surface roughness (Ra) AISI D2 tool steel ~ 62 HRC. The Turning process is done under high speed, Hard and dry machining using CBN cutting insert and CNC machine studied experimentally. The method of determining the data which is used in this investigation is a CCD (Center Cubic Design) method. The author tries to investigate the surface roughness by turning one specimen with a variation of 12 steps / levels, each level have different diameter. Feeding (0.09; 0.10, 0.13; 0.15 and 0.16 mm / rev) and cutting speed variation (74.82; 80.00; 92.50; 105 and 110.1), while the depth of cut is 0.5 mm. Measurements using a surface roughness tester Accretech HANDYSURF E-35A / E by taking the 3-point checking different areas per level of the workpiece. Ra data obtained is the result of the average of a 3 point area measured. The conclusion of this investigation is value increasing of Ra while feeding increased, and a decrease in the value of Ra as the cutting speed is increased, while cutting depth of process is 0.5 mm.
