- At the beginning of the 20th century, the Protestant Christian Church was widespread and had many sects/groups called denominations. According to the address data of the Protestant Christian Church by the Ministry of Religion of South Sumatra, there are ± 32 denominations of the Protestant Christian Church registered in Palembang City. Each denomination has its doctrines of teaching, procedures, and culture so that attitudes often arise that are less tolerant between groups with one another because of differences of opinion. This lack of tolerance is due to the lack of communication space between churches so that it limits them to worship together which is essentially done together. It is hoped that through the existence of the Palembang Oikoumene Church it can be an adequate place of worship, and can accommodate a large number of worship activities, where churches can mingle with one another, and respect each other's views within a scope. Through the visualization approach of space of light and symbolic architecture can represent the presence of God into architectural space that can unite the human soul and mind to create an attitude of faith that encourages churches to walk together on the same path and direction so that churches can for a moment forget about their respective doctrines, procedures, and cultures and only focus on worshiping God.
