- This study is a descriptive study that aims to describe students' mathematical reasoning abilities in completing the National Exams 2017/2018 type in junior high school. The research subjects of class VIII students in one of the junior high schools in Palembang numbered 3 people. This study uses data collection techniques in the form of tests with four UN questions in 2017/2018 HOTS type and interviews. The results of this study indicate that, 1). High-ability students reach a percentage of 100% for the five indicators of reasoning abilities found on each question. 2). Medium-capable students can come up with indicators to submit suspicions, manipulate mathematics, and formulate evidence or reason for the solution correctly at a percentage of 75%, namely in questions number 1, 2, and 4. While indicators draw conclusions from statements of students capable of reaching percentages 25 % of all questions given. 3). Low-ability students have reasoning abilities that are indicators presenting mathematical statements in writing. In submitting student allegations, making mathematical manipulations, compiling evidence or reasons for solutions, low-ability students only achieve a 50% percentage in solving the given questions. For indicators to draw conclusions, low-ability students cannot write them on the results of the answer sheet.
