  • More than 90% of all diabetic populations are type 2 diabetes mellitus which are characterized by a decrease in insulin secretion due to a progressively reduced function of pancreatic beta cells caused by insulin resistance. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that influence the incidence of diabetes mellitus in the working area of Awal Terusan Public Health Service in SP. Padang Subdistrict. The research design used is quantitative design using a cross sectional approach. The population in this study is people who suffer from diabetes mellitus and those who do not suffer from diabetes mellitus Subdistrict both men and women. The sample of this study are both those at risk and those who are not at risk of diabetes mellitus with the total number of 81 respondents using cluster random sampling technique. The results of univariate analysis showed the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in the working area of Awal Terusan Public Health Service is 46.9%. significant relationship between genetics (p-value = 0.016), knowledge (p-value = 0.023), energy intake (p-value = 0,0001), carbohydrate intake (p-value = 0.001), and fat intake (pvalue = 0, 0001), obesity (pvalue = 0.001), physical activity (pvalue = 0.037) and there is no relationship there are 3 variable including age (p-value=0,362), gender (p-value= 0,134), protein intake (p-value=0,299).it was concluded that diabetes mellitus was influenced by factors genetic, knowledge of energi intake, carbohyrat, fat, obesity, physical activity. con Hence Awal Terusan Public Health Service should increase the frequency of health promotion such as conducting health education about diabetes mellitus.
