Daftar Isi:
- Background: Old population growth is a phenomenon of demographic transition throughout the world including Indonesia. The elderly population tends to be vulnerable to chronic diseases. Hypertension is one of the main causes of cardiovascular disease. This situation causes the elderly to tend to need more health services such as outpatient care. The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants of utilization of outpatient services in the elderly with hypertension in Indonesia. Methods: This uses a cross-sectional study design using 2014 IFLS data. Data analysis uses chi-square analysis and multiple logistic regression prediction models to analyze deteminant factors related to utilization of outpatient services. Results: Among 2308 respondents, elderly with hypertension who needed outpatient services were 557 (24.1%). Variables that were significantly related to outpatient use were gender, health insurance status, health status, economic status, number of chronic illnesses, marital status, relationship between daily activities and region. Predictors for accessing outpatient services were highest based on the number of chronic diseases (PR 3.005; 95% CI: 2.619-3.484) after being controlled by other variables. Conclusion: The number of chronic dieases is the most important variabel in the elderly with hypertension in using outpatint services. Therefore, the government is expected to optimize policies related to programs that focus on promotive and prefentive efforts. Keyword: hypertension, IFLS, elderly, outpatient
