  • THE INNER CONFLICT OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE NOVEL CAGAK BY TAUFIK WIJAYA AND THE NOVEL NORA BY PUTU WIJAYA ABSTRACT This research aims to describe the inner conflict experienced by the main character in the novel Cagak Karya Taufik Wijaya and the novel Nora Karya Putu Wijaya by using the theory put forward by Dirgagunarsa to analyze the forms of inner conflict and Sigmund Freud's theory to analyze the causes of inner conflict. This research uses literary psychology approach and analysis of both novels using descriptive analysis method. From the analysis of the two novels, found the main character's inner conflict which includes: (a) the form of inner conflict and (b) the causes of inner conflict. The two main characters of the novel experience the same form of inner conflict, including: (1) approach-approach conflict, (2) approach-avoidance conflict and (3) avoidance-avoidance conflict. Taufik Wijaya's Cagak novel shows four factors that cause inner conflict to the main character, namely (1) confusion and anger, (2) falling self-esteem, (3) distrust, and (4) feeling awry. Nora's novel by Putu Wijaya shows six factors, namely (1) self-forgetfulness, (2) anger toward oneself, (3) underestimating others, (4) dilemma, (5) feeling trapped, and (6) feeling helpless . Judging from the results of research into the form of inner conflict and the causes of inner conflict in both novels, the main character contained in Putu Wijaya's Nora Novels experiences more inner conflict than the main character contained in Taufik Wijaya's Cagak novel. Likewise the causes of inner conflict contained in Nora's novel by Putu Wiajaya are more or more dominant than the causes of inner conflict of the main characters contained in the novel of Taufik Wijaya's Cagak.
