THE CORRELATION BETWEEN ATTITUDE TOWARD INTERNET USE AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM STUDENTS OF FKIP UNSRI INDERALAYA

- The use of internet in education field is necessary. The attendance of it makes process of finding information not as complicated as using traditional ways. When students have internet connection, the knowledge can be found easily. Therefore, the implementation of internet in educational purposes has an important role. It is expected that it can influence the students’ academic achievement. For getting maximum use of internet for academic achievement, it is necessary to know the students’ attitude toward internet use. This study was done to find out the correlation between attitude toward internet use and academic achievement and also the contribution of attitude toward Internet use to academic achievement of English Education Study Program Students of FKIP Unsri Inderalaya. The sampling technique was total population sampling. One hundred fifty seven active students of English Education Study Program of FKIP Unsri Inderalaya were selected as the sample. The instruments of the study were Attitude toward Internet Use in Language Learning Questionnaire and students’ cumulative GPA. The result revealed that there was a fair significant correlation between attitude toward internet use and academic achievement with the r-obtained value higher than the r-table value (0.443 > 0.157), and the p value was lower than 0.05 (0.001 < 0.05) in the significant level 5% two-tailed. Lastly, the contribution of attitude toward internet use to academic achievement was 19.1%. Keywords: Attitude toward Internet Use, Academic Achievement
