  • Adolescence with an age range of 15-19 years is a transitional period, during which at this stage adolescents are neither children nor adults. The identity crisis experienced by adolescents tends to be marked by the appearance of deviant behavior such as smoking behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the paired card media on attitudes related to cigarette content. This study used a quasi-experimental study design, with a pretest posttest with control group design. Sampling in this study using cluster sampling. The sample in this study was 25 in the treatment group (SMA NU) and 25 in the control group (SMA PGRI 4). Analysis of research data using the dependent t test with Wilcoxon alternative test and independent t test with Mann Whitney alternative test. The results showed that there were differences in attitude before and after being given a pair of media cards related to cigarette content in the treatment group (p = 0.001), and there were differences in attitude after being given a lecture method related to cigarette content in the control group (p = 0.001). Furthermore in this study it was found that there were no significant differences in the two groups namely the treatment group using the paired card media and the control group with the lecture method (p = 0.984). For this reason, paired card media and lecture methods are not effective in improving attitudes related to cigarette content by controlling confounding variables, namely knowledge, gender and socioeconomic. This is because respondents do not understand that cigarette content is also found in other products. Suggestion is to develop tools and media for cigarette content.
