- Incorporation of basil essential oils into patch had been doneThe aim of this research to determine the effect of concentration variations of basil essential oils incorporated into HPMC (Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose) and chitosan polymer based patch. . Observation parameters were antibacterial activity patch against Streptococcus mutans and physical properties. Patch was made by solvent casting method with variations in the concentration of basil essential oil that were (0, 18, 36, 54, 72, dan 90) mg/mL. Antibacterial activity test was conducted using disc diffusion method. The results showed that each patch formula had variance of weight values 58,3-96,7 mg, thickness 0,11-0,23 mm, folding endurance >300 folds, also good swelling index. Patch contained basil essential oils with a concentration of 90 mg/mL was determined as MIC95 value because it could inhibited the growth of Streptococcus mutans by 95,22%. Antibacterial compounds detected in the GC-MS instrument were linalool and methylcavicol.
