- This study reports the results of a study to obtain the characteristics of LDPE isolation made in a layered arrangement. In this study the measurement of partial discharge (PDIV) and partial discharge extinguishing voltage (PDEV) was measured in isolation with a layered arrangement with sheet-shaped LDPE insulation material, with a combination of varying layers namely 80 μm (single layer) and multilayer thickness and the type of layers are 40 + 40 μm, 70 + 10 μm, and 60 + 10 + 10 μm. Each sample is made in sizes 50 x 50 mm. The arrangement of each sample has the same total thickness as the variation of the combination of the thickness of the layer used. The test was carried out using the CIGRE Method-II electrode system and the applied voltage was a high voltage back and forth. The experimental results show that layered insulation has increased the ability to withstand voltage stress when compared to insulation which has the same thickness but consists of one layer. The test results show that the increase in the partial discharge initial stress and partial blackout stress for the layered arrangement has increased to 30%. This is possible due to changes in the dielectric character, among others, the increase in resistance of material arranged in series. The difference in voltage values of PDIV and PDEV. The results of this study showed a significant increase in voltage for the variation of the 60 + 10 + 10 μm multilayer arrangement, which reached 30% compared to the voltage for a single layer sample.
