- This study was conducted to obtain the characteristic of partial discharge inception voltage from low density polyethylene (LDPE) arranged so that an artificial void is formed inside the LDPE layer. In this study the test was carried out on stack of LDPE layer with 3 variations in total thickness, 60 μm, 80 μm, and 120 μm. Samples in the form of sheets with a size of 50 x 50 mm, and polyimide capton ring with a diameter of 3 cm as forming cavities between sheets of LDPE. For samples with a total thickness of 120 μm, it consists of 4 variations of arrangement, 2 x 60 μm with 1 void, 3 x 40 μm with 2 voids and 4 x 30 μm with 3 voids. As for the total thickness of LDPE 80 μm and 60 μm, the arrangement of each consists of 2 x 40 μm and 2 x 30 μm with one void between LDPE sheets. To obtain PDIV, measurements were made using CIGRE Method - II (CM-II), with the spacer using a polyimide kapton ring between the sample and the electrode. From data that has been obtained, it shows that the characteristics of the PDIV value for the LDPE sample with void tends to decrease. Decreasing value in PDIV could appear caused by the dielectric strength of the medium inside the void are lower than the LDPE itself. The largest decrease in PDIV value occurred in samples with a total thickness of 80 μm which were given one void with a decrease of 18.59% compared to samples of the same thickness without void.
