  • Hydrothermal alteration is the process of converting minerals in rocks through filling, replacement and pollution caused by the presence of hydrothermal fluid through it. Primary minerals in rocks can be transformed all over or in part into alteration minerals or secondary minerals. The research area located in the village of Tanjung Beringin, South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency is an area formed by tectonic processes during the Paleozoic to Mesozoic periods. This area was formed by spreading meso-thetys so that west sumatra subduction and woyla arc occurred in the Late Triassic until Jurassic. This tectonic process causes the formation and exposure of Pre Tertiary rocks that have undergone alteration. This research aims to determine the type of alteration, alteration zoning, paragenesis or alteration mineral formation stages and the controlling factors for alteration and mineralization in the research area. Based on the research results, there are six alteration zonations including Quartz-Epidote-Chlorite-Calcite (Propylitic), Kristobalit-Chlorite-Calcite-Serisit (Phyllic) Zone, Cyanite-Chlorite-Epidot-Serisit-Kristobalit (Propylitic-Phyllic) Zone, Smectite-Calcite-Sericite (Phyllic) Zone, Cyanite-Chlorite-Epidot-Serisit-Kristobalit Zone (Propylitic-Phyllic), Smectite-Calcite-Sericite (Phyllic) Zone, Cyanite-Chlorite-Epidot-Serisit-Kristobalit Zone (Propylitic-Phyllic)-Calcedony-Calcite-Quartz-Serisit (Argilic-Phyllic), Chlorite-Calcite-Epidote-Actinolite-Biotite (Propylitic-Potassic) Zone and Epidote-Serisit-Piropilit-Biotit (Phyllic-Potassic Zone). The stages of alteration mineral formation in the research area consisted of four stages, beginning with the formation of Propylitic Alteration, Argilic Alteration in the second stage, Phyllic Alteration stage three and finally Potassic Alteration. Factors affecting the hydrothermal alteration process in the research area are temperature, pressure, geological structure, concentration of hydrothermal solution (pH) and duration of hydrothermal activity.
