  • His study aims to (1) describe the phenomenon of changes in rice prices and rice planting area in South Sumatra (2) to analyze the effect of changes in rice prices on rice planting area as a function of supply at the farmer level, (3) to measure the elasticity of changes in rice prices term short and long term. This research was conducted in South Sumatra. The location of this research was chosen intentionally or purposively. The data collected in this study includes secondary time series data (time series) of quarterly chess from 2014-2017. The method used is a case study method and this research uses secondary data. The results of this study indicate that (1) South Sumatra planting area from 2014 to 2017 experienced an increase in 2017 rice planting area in January to April experienced a significant decrease of 176,206, this is due to high production costs. And the price of rice in South Sumatra experienced very thin fluctuations from 2014 to 2017 tends to be flat because this is due to an increase in rice production costs every year. (2) The results of simple regression statistical tests that have been carried out show that the price of South Sumatra rice has an effect on the area of rice planting in South Sumatra, and only affects the level of α = 0.6. (3) The value of short-term and long-term supply elasticity for the price of South Sumatra rice is 0.828 for the short term and 0.002 for the long term. In the short and long term the elasticity of the offer is in-elastic. This means that changes in the price of rice will be smaller than changes in supply of planting area.
