  • Research on the antidiabetic activity of extract and fraction of karamunting (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Ait.) Hassk.) fruit on white male Wistar rats induced by alloxan has been conducted which aims to determine the AUC (Area Under Curve) as an indicator of the effectiveness of decreasing blood glucose levels value of ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction and to find out their ED50 (Effective Dose 50). The Wistar strain male white rats were used as the animal test which were divided into 8 groups consisting of positive control groups using 1 IU/kgBB insulin as the comparison, negative control groups using 0,5% sodium CMC suspension and treatment group of ethanol extract from karamunting fruit with various doses were 100, 200, 400 mg/kgBW and the treatment group of ethyl acetate fraction of karamunting fruit with doses were 10 - 40 mg/kgBW. The results showed that the AUC0-15 value and the percentage decrease of blood glucose levels for positive control were 2452,285 and 48,09%, the ethanol extract treatment group with doses of 100 - 400 mg/kgBW were 2261,211 - 2389,605 and 49,42% - 52,14% respectively and the ethyl acetate fraction treatment group at doses of 10 - 40 mg/kgBW respectively were 2082,381 - 2258,275 and 52,20% - 55,92% respectively. This shows that extracts and fractions that have better antidiabetic activity were the ethanol extract of the highest dose of karamunting fruit (400 mg/kgBW) which there was no significant difference compared to insulin (p>0,05) and the highest dose of ethyl acetate fraction (40 mg/kgBW) which there was significant difference compared to insulin (p<0,05). ED50 of ethanol extract was 65% smaller than the largest dose of ethanol extract and ED50 ethyl acetate fraction was 89% smaller than the largest dose of ethyl acetate fraction.
