- Antidiabetic activity of ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of karamunting (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Ait.) Hassk.) on Wistar white male rats induced by streptozotocin has been conducted. This study was conducted to examine the antidiabetic activity of ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of karamunting leaves in type 2 diabetes mellitus rats induced by streptozotocin 60 mg/kgBB. Ethanol extract was divided into 3 treatment dosage groups, were 100 mg/kgBB, 200 mg/kgBB, and 400 mg/kgBB. Ethyl acetate fraction was divided into 3 treatment dosage groups, were 10 mg/kgBB, 20 mg/kgBB, and 40 mg/kgBB. The comparison group used metformin as positive control and Na CMC 0.5% as negative control. Measurement of rat blood glucose level using a photometer on 0th, 5th, 10th, and 15th days. AUC0-15 values describe amount of glucose in blood. The average value of AUC0-15 and %PKGD for positive control was 1104.84 and 31.03%, ethanol extract treatment group dose 100-400 mg/kgBB ranged between 763.32-1010.95 and 36.89%-52.35%, and ethyl acetate fraction treatment group dose 10-40 mg/kgBB ranged between 738.24-783.74 and 52.08%-53.92%. This showed that ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction of karamunting leaves had antidiabetic activity and there were significant differences in positive control (p <0.05). The ED50 value of ethanol extract of karamunting leaves was 9% smaller than the largest dose of ethanol extract and ED50 ethyl acetate fraction of karamunting leaves was 44% smaller than the smallest dose of ethyl acetate fraction.
