  • This study aims to determine the use of chitosan in the ration on the performance of silver Arab chicken production. This research was carried out for 7 weeks in the Experimental Farm Laboratory of the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Industry, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The animals used in this study were 60 Arab silver chickens and 4.5 months old. The ration used was basal ration consisting of corn, rice bran and concentrate added with chitosan. The research design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments and 5 replications. As a variable unit: R0 (Control), R1 (Basal Ration containing 0.5% chitosan), R2 (Basal Ration containing 1% chitosan), R3 (Basal Ration containing 1.5% chitosan), R4 (Basal Ration containing 2% chitosan), R5 (Basal ration containing 2.5% chitosan). The observed variables were feed consumption, hen day production and feed conversion. Data were analyzed using variance (ANOVA) and if it showed a real difference it would be followed by Duncan's test. The results of this study indicate that the administration of chitosan in the ration has not significantly affected (P>0.05) on the production performance of silver Arabian chickens. The conclusion of this study is that the provision of chitosan in the ration has not been able to increase production performance.
