  • corrosion is a process of damage to metal material that occurs due to the influence of chemical reactions on the environment when a metal material is exposed to direct air without any protection. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of variations in steel cutting to corrosion rate and the percentage of steel damage, variations in steel surface incisions used, namely hand grinding machines, file files and sandpaper. corrosion rate testing begins by giving a cut to the steel surface. Then immersion was carried out on 3 groups of solutions namely acetic acid solution, salt solution and acetic acid solution mixed with salt solution for 30 days. after testing it can be seen the results of the corrosion rate with changes in weight that occurs, the percentage of steel damage and the type of corrosion that is formed. The results of the corrosion rate and the smallest percentage of steel damage occurred on sandpaper 600 in a salt solution with a value of 2.6297 mpy and 0.1979%. the type of corrosion that forms in each sample that is tested is uniform corrosion.
