EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK KAYU MANIS (Cinnamomum burmannii) SEBAGAI HAND SANITIZER
Daftar Isi:
- Background: The hand is a part of the body that is very susceptible to being a breeding ground for pathogenic microorganisms. Washing hands is one way to minimize the number of pathogens and avoid disease transmission. Antiseptic hand sanitizer that is often used is alcohol. Alcohol has been used extensively as an antiseptic for the skin because it has the effect of inhibiting bacterial growth, but has side effects. Cinnamon has an antimicrobial effect on several types of bacteria and also fungus, thus allowing its use more effectively as an active ingredient in hand sanitizers compared to alcohols which only have bactericidal activity. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of cinnamon extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) as a hand sanitizer. Method: This study is a laboratory experimental study with a simple experimental design (Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design), has been done in Laboratory of Medical Faculty of Sriwijaya University. The treatment was given to five test groups with three concentration gradients of cinnamon extract hand sanitizer (5%, 10%, and 20%), and two other groups as a control group. The effectiveness analysis is done by calculating the number of colonies or the number of germs taken through a swab on the surface of the subject's palm. Results: Generally, there was a decrease in the number of colonies or germ counts in all test groups. But statistically the group with a significant reduction was the use of cinnamon extract hand sanitizer at a concentration 20%. Conclusion: Hand sanitizer cinnamon extract is effective as an antiseptic agent to reduce the number of colonies.
