Daftar Isi:
- Backgound.Fig leaf (Ficus carica L.) has been used traditional medicine for infectious wound. This is due to the flavonoid content in fig leaf which is known to have an antibacterial effect. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of topical fig leaf extract as an antibacterial in wound infection of diabetic albino rats. Method. In vivoexperimental study with pre and post test group design albino rats (n=24) with diabetic model induced by infection wounds in the back region. Samples were divided into 4 groups: fig leaf extract of 5%, 10%, 20%, and possitive control (gentamicin 0,1%). Measurement of the bacterial count carried out by swab then cultured on agar media and incubated for 24 hours. The bacterial count in each group was calculated using a colony counter. Results. There was a significant decrease in the bacterial count before and after treatment in all groups, and between groups after treatment (p<0.05). The higher the concentration of fig leaf extract, the more decrease in the bacterial count after treatment. Conclusion. Fig leaf extract (Ficus carica L.) is effective in reducing bacterial count in wound infection in diabetic albino rats. Keyword: Ficus carica L., bacterial count, in vivo
