HUBUNGAN IKLIM KERJA PANAS DENGAN RISIKO HEAT STRAIN PADA PEKERJA INDUSTRI KERUPUK KEMPLANG DI KECAMATAN SEBERANG ULU I PALEMBANG

- The production process in kerupuk kemplang industry, such as boiling and frying, requires high temprature. High temprature around working environment can cause physical harm to the employees. The exposure of continuous hot working environment which is above the normal limit can cause heat strain. This study aimed to find out the correlation between hot working environment and the risk of suffering from heat strain among the employees of kerupuk kemplang industry at Sebereang Ulu District Palembang. This study applied analytical survey method using cross sectional design. The samples were take from 86 employees working at kerupuk kemplang industry at Seberang Ulu District Palembang. Measured in temprature of hot work environmet was conducted at five industries, it was measured in four points in each industry. The data were analyzed by applying variate and bivariate analysis using chi-square test. The maximum score got from the result of measuring the temprature of hot working environmet was 44.0oC, which is above the normal limit. The prevalence of heat strain among the employees was 73.3%. The result showes that there was a correlation between hot working environment and the risk of suffering from heat strain among the employees of kerupuk kemplang industry at Seberang Ulu I Distrik Palembang (p-value = 0.003; PR= 1.82). Other factors which were also correlated with the risk of heat strain were age ((p-value = 0.000; PR = 2.84), obesity (p-value = 0.005; PR = 1.42), and the comsumption of drinking water (p-value = 0.001; PR = 1.78). It can be concluded that hot work working environment can influence the risk of suffering from heat strain among the employees of kerupuk kemplang industry at Seberang Ulu I Distrik Palembang.
