- This research was conducted in the city of Palembang on the meaning of “Gender Role In Batak Toba Society (Studi of Clan Society Borsak Sirumonggur Sihombing Lumbantoruan Dohot Boruna in Palembang). Purpose of this research was to describes productive role, reproductive role and society role in Batak Toba society.This study using a qualitative descriptive as a research method.Types and sources of data obtained through primary data and secondary data with data collection techniques in the form of observations, interviews, and documentation. This study uses the concept of gender role by Hubeis. The results of this study is : (1) in productive roles are not only men involved but women also can dominate. The reasons for women to work are because of their education, economic motive and also for self-actualization. (2) in the reproductive roles women no longer fully do household chores, even so working women to carry out their role at home that is by always getting up early to prepare the kids before they go to school. While the implementation of their role in domestic work is left to the maid. (3) in the society role, men continue to dominate in the political role in the society. While in the social role, women who are status as Bor and function as parhobas began to shift in their function in Batak Toba society.
