  • Menarche is the first menstruation experienced by women, which is physically marked by the discharge of blood from the vagina due to the decay of the endometrial layer. The several factors associated with decreasing age of menarche include nutritional status, genetics, hormones, socio-economic, exposure to adult mass media (pornography), sexual behavior and lifestyle. A woman experiences early menarche which occurs at age less than 11 years. This study used a quantitative approach with cross sectional study design. Sampling was done by using simple random sampling technique by fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Measurements of the incidence of menarche and interviews were carried out to students in Muhammadiyah Elementary School 6 Palembang and 173 Public Elementary Schools Palembang. Data analysis techniques were univariate, bivariate, and multivariate using statistical tests. Data is then presented in tables and narratives to interpret the data. The results of the study showed 36 (43.9%) respondents had nutritional status fat / obese. In bivariate analysis, it was shown that there was a significant relationship between nutritional status and menarche events (p = 0.010), there was a significant relationship between the incidence of maternal menarche and the incidence of menarche in children (p = 0.042), and there is a significant relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of menarche quickly (p = 0.012). In multivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between the incidence of maternal menarche and lifestyle with a value of p = 0.050 and p = 0.046. It is better if the school needs to hold teacher training, counseling and communication, information and education (IEC) programs in schools regarding reproductive health, especially regarding preparedness in the face of menarche and adolescents to better maintain nutritional status and apply healthy lifestyle patterns.
