  • This research was aimed to modify the lawn mower brush cutter machine type of Yamakoyo BG 328 for rotary cultivator using a brush cutter engine as a rotary power source that moves the cultivator’s blade. This research was conducted on December 2018 until May 2019 at Dusun 3 Desa Simpang Rambutan Banyuasin Workshop, Agriculture Technology Department Workshop, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya campus and pineapple land at Jalan Kapten Matnang, Tanjung Pering Village, Ogan Ilir Regency, North Indralaya. This research used engineering design and experimental methods with descriptive data presentation in the form tables and graphs. This rotary cultivator engine was designed with 1 kW power, maximum speed of 350 rpm and 1:25 fuel ratio. The rotary cultivator machine consists of several components, namely driving motors, main components, additional components and frames. This research used six parameters, namely theoretical field capacity, effective field capacity, field efficiency, fuel consumption, engine fuel costs, efficiency of weeding. The results showed that the rotary cultivator machine had theoretical field capacity of an average of 0.0060 ha/hour, an effective field capacity of an average of 0.0039 ha/hour, field efficiency of 65.61%, average fuel consumption of 1.4385 liters/hour, the average fuel cost is 11.292 IDR/hour and weeding weeds efficiency averages of 98.91%. Modification of a lawn mower brush cutter Yamakoyo BG 328 into this rotary cultivator showed greater efficiency compared to the efficiency of a lawn machine that was converted into a combined weeding machine and ground scrubber.
