FAKTOR-FAKTOR RISIKO RINITIS ALERGI PADA SISWA BERUSIA 13-14 TAHUN DI SMP NEGERI 5, 10, 28 DAN SMP BAPTIS PALEMBANG

- Introduction : Allergic rhinitis is seen in 10-25% of the population, with children and adolescents more frequently affected than adults. This study is conducted to determine the prevalence and risk factors of allergic rhinitis in children 13 – 14 years old in several junior high schools around the factory and urban areas in Palembang. Method: This study is a descriptive observational study, with a cross sectional design, with cluster random sampling technique followed by purposive random sampling. The study population is the students 13-14 years old at SMP Negeri 5, 10, 28 and SMP Baptis Palembang . The variables used are sex, history of asthma, atopic dermatitis, family history of atopic disease, factory smoke exposure and air pollution. Result: The study is conducted on 600 children, consist of 192 children in SMP 5, 248 children in SMP 10, 108 children in SMP 28 and 52 children in SMP Baptis. It is known that as many as 63 people (21.7%) in junior high school around factory areas (SMP 5 and SMP 28) and 56 people (18.7%) in junior high school in urban areas (SMP 10 and SMP Baptis) have allergic rhinitis. Bivariate analysis result shows exposure to cigarette smoke and air pollution has associated with allergic rhinitis p = 0,000 (p <alpha). Conclusion: The prevalence of allergic rhinitis in junior high school students in the factory areas (21%) is higher compared to junior high school in urban areas (18.7%). Exposure to cigarette smoke and air pollution has a connection with the occurrence of allergic rhinitis. Key Words : Allergic rhinitis, prevalence, risk factors, Junior High School, factory, urban
