  • Background : Grade Point Average is to measure achievement in academic, which is used to evaluate student achievement at the end of the semester. The effort that can be done to improve the quality of students’ learning. Consuming enough calories increases blood glucose, serum insulin, serum cholesterol and serum IGF-1 in the CA1 hippocampal region which is sufficiently associated with increased memory consolidation and brain synaptic plasticity. This shows that sufficient calorie intake is proven to improve learning and memory functions that affect student learning achievement. Method : This study used analytic observational study with cross-sectional design and a sample of 57 dentistry students, where the study design measurement and observation were carried out simultaneously at one time, using total sampling technique, from September-November 2019. Result : The data of this study were obtained from 3x24 hours food recall interviews which calculated the number of calories through NutriSurvey software in kcal units and Student Study Results Cards before any improvement of grades. In this study found 77.2% of subjects with enough breakfast calories, 75,4% of dentistry students who had a satisfactory GPA and 1,8% of dentistry students who had a unsatisfactory GPA. The category of breakfast less calories is 22.8%, there are 17,6% of dentistry students who have a satisfactory GPA and 5,3% of dentistry students who have a unsatisfactory GPA. Based on data analysis using the Fisher Exact Test found a significant relationship between breakfast calories and GPA, with a value of p = 0.034 (p <0.05). Conclusion : There is a relationship between intake of breakfast and the grade point average in SBMPTN Students of Dentistry Education Program Faculty of Medicine Sriwijaya University 2017&2018.
