  • Introduction: Traffic accidents are a health problem in the forensic medicine that often occurs in the community and need special attention because it is still a major problem in the implementation of road transportation in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to identify the prevalence, demographic characteristics, and wound characteristics in death victims due to traffic accidents based on external examination of visum et repertum at South Sumatera within 1 of January 2017 to 31 of October 2019. Methods: This study used descriptive design with cross sectional study based on secondary data using visum et repertum at RS Bhayangkara Palembang. The population of this research are all the death victims from external examination of visum et repertum at RS Bhayangkara Palembang from January 2017 to October 2019. The sample of this research are all the death victims of traffic accidents at RS Bhayangkara Palembang from January 2017 to October 2019. Results: The research subject are 15 death victims due to traffic accidents. The majority of the victims are male (66.7%), age 21-30 years old (26.7%), motorcyclist (46.7%), with abrasion wound (40%), the most frequent location of the wound on the head (22.5%), and the prevalence of the death victims of traffic accidents is 4,73%. Conclusion: The prevalence of the death victims of traffic accidents based on external examination of visum et repertum at RS Bhayangkara Palembang within January 2017 to October 2019 is 4,73%. The majority of the victims are male, age 21-30 years old, motorcyclist, with abrasion wound, the most frequent location of the wound on the head.
