  • Nursing home plays a role in depression. Elderly patients in nursing home known to have high depression. The aim of this study are to know the description of depression levels, the distribution of characteristics based on age, gender, education levels, marital status, intensity of meeting family, communication patterns with family, history of the disease, and to find out the factors that most influence the level of depression in elderly patients at Nursing Home in Palembang. This is a cross-sectional study conducted in August 2019 which subjects are elderly patients at Lanjut Usia Harapan Kita Nursing Home and Dharma Bakti Nursing Home in Palembang. Data thats collected by interview and using questionnaire was analyzed by using chi-square and logistic regression. From 62 subjects, 40 are women and 22 are men, among them, 28 patients (45.2%) were depressed, 20 patients (32.2%) were likely depressed, and 14 others (22.6%) were normal. Bivariate test showed a significant association between depression levels and gender (p = 0.027), marital status (p = 0.041), intensity of meeting family (p = 0.036), and communication patterns with family (p = 0.000). Multivariate analysis showed the most influential factors of depression levels are communication patterns with family (OR 17, p = 0.002), gender (OR 7, p = 0.041), and marital status (OR 13, p = 0.050). Gender, marital status, intensity of meeting family, communication patterns with family affect the level of depression. The most influential factors of depression levels are gender, marital status, and communication pattern with family. Keywords: Depression, Elderly Patient, Nursing Home
