The purpose of this research was to know exactly the background of Depati Amir to fight against the Dutch colonial government and to know the role of Depati Amir in the fight against the Dutch colonial. This research was conducted from March 15, 2019 to April 15, 2019 on Bangka Island using historical methods with data collection techniques through literature studies and interview data obtained from Bangka historians. The results of the study proved that Depati Amir’s background to fight against the Dutch colonial government was due to two factors: general factors and special factors. The role of Depati Amir in the fight against the Dutch colonial was very large and even widespread on Bangka Island. Depati Amir appeared as a hero who was not afraid to die in a fight against the Dutch colonial government. The characteristics of consistency and anti-colonialism that had been embedded in Depati Amir since childhood had made him brave enough to be able to attack the headquarters of the Dutch colonial government on Bangka Island.
