- The methionine amino acid is an essential amino acid and it is the main limiting factors for growth, tissue metabolism, and reproduction. Lack of methionine amino acid feed will cause the cessation of the protein synthesis process, this will also affect the fish growth. The purpose of this research is to determine the levels of amino acid methionine in the feed that is optimal for the growth performance of asian sea bass which is maintained in controlled conditions. This research was carried out at the Lampung Center for Marine Aquaculture (BBPBL) Hanura, Teluk Hurun, Lampung Province from July to September 2018. Analysis of amino acids was carried out at the Integrated Chemistry Laboratory of the Bogor Agricultural University. Proximate and water quality analysis were carried out at the BBPBL Nutrition, Health and Environment Laboratory, Lampung. This research used a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications including: K (Feed Control / commercial), P1 (Feed independent with the addition of 0.35% methionine), and P2 (Feed independent with additions methionine 0.55%). The results showed that: the highest absolute weight growth was found in P2 (120.4 ± 0.76 g), the highest length growth at P1 (8.52 ± 0.16 cm), the highest amount of feed consumption in P2 (129.29 ± 0 , 24 g/fish), highest SR at K (99.17 ± 1.04 %), highest FCR in P2 (1.07 ± 0.01), highest protein retention at (K (62.35 ± 1.15 %), fat retention the highest was K (99.55 ± 16.98 %), and the highest methionine retention was P1 (38.20 ± 0.40 %). The range of water quality during maintenance was 32 ppm salinity, DO 5.09-5.80 ppm, temperature 28.2-29.10C, pH 7.5-8.1, and ammonia 0.14-0.59 mg / L.
