  • The purposes of this research were to determine the antioxidant activity of purified compounds as well as to predict the structure and functional groups of water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) extract. This research was conducted from Maret until August 2016 using laboratory experimental methods and the data was analysed descriptively. The purification process was perform using column chromatoghraphy. The resulted fractions were then tested for antioxidant activity. The structure and functional groups of each fractions were determined using FTIR. The separation and purification of water lettuce extract using column chromatography produced 7 fractions with different colors. The antioxidant activity with DPPH method has the highest a0ctivity in the third fraction with IC50 value of 131.66 ppm. The fifth fraction relatively it has a IC50 value of 184.62 ppm, while in the first fraction, the second, fourth, sixth and seventh relatively very weak because IC50 > 200 ppm. The curve FTIR analysis showed that the intensity in the third fraction wider than the fraction of the sixth and seventh, it indicates that the third fraction OH group contained more than the fraction of the sixth and seventh.
