  • The objective of this research was to determine the performance of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) by using extract of red dragon fruit as photosensitizer on various thicknesses of TiO2 paste and distance from light source. The research was conducted from December 2016 until March 2017 at the Laboratory of Chemistry of Agricultural Product, and Laboratory of Energy and Electrification, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. This research consisted of three stages: preparation of DSCC structure, arrangement and assembly of DSSC sandwich, and performance analysis. The research used work electrode and counter electrode of capacitive touch screen (Tablet Mito T 500) with conductivity between 0.73 kΩ and 9.6 kΩ. The thickness of TiO2 based on the numbers layer of masking tape (2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 layers) and the distance from light source were 10, 20 and 30 cm. The parameters observed were spectral absorbance of dye extracted from red dragon fruit peel, the characteristics of current and voltage (IV), power, fill factor and efficiency of DSSC. The amount of anthocyanin in dye was 1.535 %. The analysis of electrical characteristic showed that DSSC with three layers masking tape at the distance of 10 cm from light source gave the best performance with Voc, Isc, Vmax, Imax, Pmax, FF, and efficiency of 245 mV; 0.0271 mA; 37.1 mV; 0.0213 mA; 0.7902 mW; 0.1190 and 0.2182 %, respectively. DSSC with six layers of masking tape at the distance of 30 cm from light source showed the lowest performance with Voc, Isc, Vmax, Imax, Pmax, FF, and efficiency of 22 mV; 0.0015 mA; 8 mV; 0.0004 mA; 0.0032 mW; 0.0970 dan 0.0093 %, respectively.
