  • The estuary has soo high biodiversity. Macrodebris, the dominant debris found, has many negative impacts on the estuary. Sungsang Village is one of estuary area of South Sumatra which had indicated a high density of waste. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of macrodebris in Sungsang Village and study the social culture of the coastal communities about debris. Marine debris that is focused on this research is macro-sized debris, base on the Standings - stock survey method. The people who become respondents included the general public, village official, schools, health center and market. Respondents of schools and health centers have knowledge of debris better even not significant than others. Inadequate debris disposal facility in the village is the reason for the majority of respondents to littering, beside habitual factors. Macrodebris weight density doesn’t show any significant difference among all groups, which the range of 3.75 to 195.01 gram / m2. The density of macrodebris units in the schools is relatively higher significant compared by the general public and village officials. The range of macrodebris unit density among all stations is about 0.54 to 6.00 units / m2. Plastic is the most dominant debris found, followed by processed lumber.
