  • Infectious disease is disease that many suffered people in Indonesia and the world, such as digestive tract infections caused by Escherichia coli and such as ulcers, and injury infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus. The research aims to determine the antibacterial activity of fraction and active compound from seburo leaves (Garcinia forbesii King.) against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The research has been held on September to December 2016. The method used in the research is extraction from with maceration, liquid fractionation method (FCC), antibacterial activity with diffusion agar method and isolation of the research with chromatography column. Test bacteria that used were Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The result of this research showed that fraction of n-heksan active in inhibition the growth of bacteria that used in this test. The minimum inhibitory concentration of n-hexane fraction of Escherichia coli was 125 μg/ml and 250 μg/ml against Staphylococcus aureus. The results purification of the active compound obtained isolate N15 a phenol compound with a value Rf 0,6. Minimum inhibitory concentration from active compound (isolates N15) against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus is 62,5 μg/ml. The conclusion of this research was fraction and the active compound of seburo leaves have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, thus the active compound is phenol.
