  • The research objective was to determine the effect of blade rotation speeds in chopping process and material types on performance of the modified power thresher. It was conducted from November 2018 to April 2019 at Farm Equipment and Machinery Laboratory as well as Energy and Electrification Laboratory, Agricultural Technology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The method used in this study was Factorial Randomized Block Design with two treatment factors. The first factor was blade rotation speed at three levels A1 (1000 ± 20 rpm), A2 (1150 ± 20 rpm) and A3 (1300 ± 20 rpm) and the second was material type at three levels consisting of B1 (water hyacinth), B2 (rice straw), B3 (elephant grass). Each treatment was replicated three times. The observed parameters were effective working capacity of machine (kg.h-1), uniformity of chopping product (cm) and fuel consumption (l.h-1). The results showed that material types treatment had significant effect on uniformity of chopping product, effective working capacity of machine and fuel consumption. The highest effective working capacity of machine was found on treatment combination (A1B3) using blade rotation speeds of 1000 ± 20 rpm and elephant grass material with magnitude of 12.84 kg. h-1. The highest uniformity of chopping product was found on treatment combination (A2B2) using blade rotation speeds of 1150 ± 20 rpm and rice straw material with magnitude of 90.92 %. The highest fuel consumption was found on treatment combination (A2B3) using blade rotation speeds of 1150 ± 20 rpm and elephant grass material with magnitude of 1.78 l.h-1.
