  • Petai’s peel (Parkia speciosa Hassk) contain flavonoid, tannin, and saponin, so it could act as antihyperlipidemia. This study purposed to know antihyperlipidemia effect of ethanol extract petai’s peel towards total cholesterol level and LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) level reduction. Male wistar albino rats were divided into 5 groups, positive control group (simvastatin 0.193 mg/200 gBB), negative control group (Na CMC 0.5%), and three treatment groups of ethanol extract petai’s peel with dosage 56 mg/200 gBB, 112 mg/200 gBB, and 168 mg/200 gBB. The rats were given high-fat supplement and propylthiouracil for 15 days to increase cholesterol, and the extract given for the next 15 days. Rats total cholesterol level after induced can be stated as hyperlipidemia if >54 mg/dL and LDL level >27 mg/dL. The result showed ethanol extract petai’s peel dosage 168 mg/200 gBB could reduce total cholesterol level and LDL level significantly of 39.11±2.32 mg/dL and 16.98±1.67 mg/dL. This point indicated that the ethanol extract petai’s peel has an antihyperlipidemia activity and there is significant difference compared with negative control group (p<0.05). According to the relation between percentage reduction level of total cholesterol with dose, value of ED50 of ethanol extract petai’s peel is 148,298 mg/200 gBB and for LDL reduction level is 66,907 mg/200 gBB.
