  • Caries is a term that used to describe the disease of dental hard tissue like email, dentin and cementum caused by microorganism in fermented carbohydrate. Risk factors of caries are history of caries, use of fluor, oral hygiene, number of bacterial, saliva, age, sex, diet and socioeconomic. The prevalence and the degree of severity of caries in the 18 years old group are 83,5%. The aim of this study is to describe oppourtunity of 18 years old group in avoiding caries in the future. In this study conducted several examinations include sample of diet carbohydrate, exposure of fluor, systemic disease, history of caries, plaque score, rate flow of saliva, buffer stage, and number of Streptococcus mutans colony in saliva. Total samples are 50 people consisting of 45 females and 5 males. Magnitude of opportunity in each samples measured by using kariogram software. In this study, the most influence factor in avoiding careis is rate flow of saliva (P = 0,005). Another influencing factor are sample of diet carbohydrate (P = 0,031) and oral hygiene that determined by plaque score (P = 0,012). In further research, suggested to determine the cause of low rate flow of saliva in this population and the prevention.
