ANALISIS ALAT PENGERING GABAH TIPE FLAT BED MENGGUNAKAN PANAS UAP JENUH BERBASIS BAHAN BAKAR BIOMASSA AKASIA (Acacia mangium) MELALUI HEAT EXCHANGER

- The research objective was to analyze rice drying process by using flat bed drier with saturated vapor heat through heat exchanger having biomass fuel of acacia. The research was done in July 2012 to June 2013 in the Biosystem Laboratory and Workshop Laboratory Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agricultural, University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya. The research method consisted of three steps: dryer design, dryer construction, and dryer test. The observed parameters in this research were drying rate, water content, drying energy requirement, efficiency of energy usage, heating efficiency and drying efficiency as well as drying capacity. The results showed that average drying rate by using biomass fuel of acacia was 1.11%/hour. The final water content of rice using biomass fuel of acacia was 13.88% wet basis. The average energy requirement by biomass fuel of acacia for drying and air heating were 31,419.86 kJ and 30,211.60 kJ. The average efficiency by biomass fuel of acacia for drying and heating were 20.61% and 7.68%. The average efficiency of energy consumption from biomass fuel of acacia was 24.09%. The average efficiency of drier using biomass fuel of acacia was 89.89%. In conclusion, the use of biomass fuel of acacia in flat bed drier was suitable for rice drying process.
