- The study, titled "The Biodeversity of Trees and Birds and the Potency of Carbon uptake in the Green Open Space at Komperta Refinery Unit III Plaju Palembang", is aimed at determining the biodiversity of trees and birds as well as presuming the region absorption of carbon dioxide emissions. The research was conducted from August to September 2014, taken place at Komperta Refinery Unit III Plaju, Komperta Village, District Plaju, Palembang. The method used is the method of exploration for the inventory of tree species, and Indice Ponctuels d'Abondance method (IPA method) for the inventory of birds, while estimating CO2 uptake was calculated by using a comparison relative molecular mass of CO2 and the relative atomic mass of an inventory of tree species C. The results showed that there are 54 species included in 27 families, with the dominant tree species are Pterocarpus indicus Willd (16,74%), Polyathia longifolia Sonn. (14,02%), Cocos nucifera L. (12,98%), Elaeis guineensis Jacq. (7,76 %) and Mangifera indica L. (7,71%). The Tree species richness index value is 6,92 with a diversity index value of 2,96. The results of bird species inventory recorded 19 species of birds included 14 families. The conclusion of this study is the identification of four known bird species which has been reserved under constitution; Halcyon chloris, Haliastur indus, Halycon smyrnensis, Nectarinia jugularis, and the potency total of CO2 uptake for 13 tree species in the study area is 71,44 tons/ha or at 8.215,6 tons of assuming a broad sampling of 50% of the total area of ± 230 ha. The largest of CO2 uptake/number of trees is owned by Pterocarpus indicus Willd. which is in the amount of 63.78 tons/ha, while the smallest CO2 uptake/number of trees is owned by Syzygium polyanthum Wight. which is equal to 0.04 tons/ha.
