- The Independence achieved by the Republik Indonesia on Agust 17, 1945 has opened the opportunity for each region to be able to take power and establish the government of the Republic of Indonesia. In connection with this, the research entitled Development of Palembang City Government in 1945-1950 (Contribution of Material in the History Course in South Sumatera) will discuss the procces of establishing the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in Palembang City and how the struggle of the Palembang People in maintaining the sovereignty of their government. Based on the results of a study conducted in this research, it can be seen that the success of the movement leaders and youth in gathering and raising the spirit of independence in the hearts of the people of Palembang become a major factor in establishing the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in Palembang City. Besides that, after the establishment of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in the city of Palembang was not the end of the struggle, it turned out that the people of Palembang still had to fight to maintain the sovereignty of their government from the hands of Dutch colonialism.
