IDENTIFIKASI DAN KELIMPAHAN MARINE DEBRIS ANORGANIK DI DESA SUNGSANG IV KECAMATAN BANYUASIN II KABUPATEN BANYUASIN PROVINSI SUMATERA SELATAN

- Marine debris is the accumulated waste materials that went into the sea area either by direct discharge or by free flow caused by human activities. The amount of anorganic trash at the sea, either sinking or floating, will destabilize the ecosystems in it. Unavailability of garbage shelters and the low level of public awareness are two of the factors that makes the villagers of Sungsang IV still throw garbage directly into the waters. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the distribution, type, and abundance of marine debris in Sungsang IV. This research was conducted in April 2016. The method used was purposive sampling by adopting benthos calculation transects 10 x 10 meters. The research results showed that the amount of marine debris found are less in areas near the edge of the water as compared with that from the center of the settlement. Marine debris found in Sungsang IV had 9 types of materials: glass and ceramic, cloth, rubber, paper and cardboard, plastic, foamed plastic, metal, composite, and other. Plastic ranked as the dominant material reaching 93.292 percent. The abundance amount of marine debris found were from 3 to 23 units / m2 and the abundance of weight were from 16 to 202 g / m2.
