  • Musi River Estuary is an estuary area that receives input from the upstream of Musi River and from Bangka Strait seawater. This water is covered by various types of mangrove with environmental factors and is interrelated. Mangrove growth is strongly influenced by the characteristics of sediment as a place for the growth of mangrove itself. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of sediments and parameters of waters such as salinity, pH, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia and substrates present in sediments, to analyze mangrove vegetation by using quadratic transect method, and to analyze the relationship between sediment characteristics to the amount of mangrove vegetation with PCA analysis. The result indicated that the mean density of mangrove at tree, sapling and seedling levels were 683 ind/ha, 2.400 ind/ha and 35.667 ind/ha and with Nypa fruticans as much as 35-137 clumps. The results of the parameters of the waters showed that the salinity value ranged from 0 - 16 0/00. The pH ranged from 5.85 to 7.21. The nitrate concentration ranged from 0.46 - 1.19 mg/L. Phosphate concentration ranged from 0.19 - 3.88 mg/L. The ammonia concentration ranged from 1.34 - 3.88 mg/L. The types of substrate found in the sediments were sandy clay, sand with clay, muddy sand, and muddy clay. Based on the results of PCA analysis, it can be seen that the type of clay fraction, salinity, pH, nitrate and ammonia became the main characteristics in Musi River estuary.
