  • Songket was a typical city cloth in Palembang, which production process required eye precision. If the the work was done for long time, it could be risk increasing complaints of eye fatigue. The purpose of this study was to analyze the causes complaints of eye fatigue in songket weaver in center of songket industry in Palembang City. This research was a qualitative descriptive study. Research informants amounted to 14 people consisting of 2 people who owned the songket business unit, a general practitioner from the Makrayu Health Center, an ophthalmologist, and 10 songket weaver. Information collected with in-depth interviews and measurements. The results showed that 53% weaver in unit X and all of weaver in unit Y complaint eye fatigue. Based on individual factors, in business unit X one craftsman had myopia and astigmatism, had no history of diabetes and hypertension, eye rested for 5-10 minutes, and slept <8 hours a day, while all craftsmen in business unit Y had myopia and hypermetropy, had a history of hypertension, eye rested for 5-10 minutes, and slept >8 hours a day. Based on work environment factors, two rooms in business unit X, general lighting intensity and local lighting intensity in morning, noon and evening was not eligible and in business unit Y, lighting intensity and local lighting intensity in morning, noon and evening was not eligible. Based on employment factors, craftsmen in business unit X had a working time >8 hours a day, working period <3 years and the distance of the eye with work objects >30 cm while craftsmen in business unit Y had a working time <8 hours a day, working period >3 year and eye distance with work object >30 cm. So the researchers suggested to increase the intensity of lamp and change the layout of the work tool.
