  • Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is one of air pollution determinants which has the highest toxicity because it is highly reactive and corrosive. At certain concentrations, NO2 can cause health problems such as abnormalities in the respiratory tract, pulmonary edema, until death, especially in subjects exposed directly near the source. NO2 can arise from activities in power plants when burning fuels such as biomass. Biomass Power Plant PT.Rimba Palma Sejahtera Lestari (RPSL) Jambi City is a location that has the potential to decrease air quality. This study aims to examine the risk of NO2 gas exposure to Biomass Steam Power Plant workers health PT.Rimba Palma Sejahtera Lestari. This research is descriptive study with environmental health risk analysis method. Respondent samples was taken by purposive sampling so that consisted of 60 respondents according to the established criteria; workers who were around the area for 8 hours per day or more and had worked at the company for 1 year or more. NO2 concentrations value was measured at 4 point by Griess Saltzman method and spectrophotometer analysis techniques. The results showed that the average of NO2 concentration at PT RPSL Jambi City is 48.80 μg/m3 with an average of body weight is 60 kg, exposure time is 8 hours/day, exposure frequency 301 days/year and the longest exposure duration is 2,5 years. So that the results obtained in realtime and lifetime exposure of all workers is the value of RQ <1. RQ values can vary depending on certain conditions so that the company needs to do control by installing a gas detector to detect the presence of dangerous gases as soon as possible.
