  • Mangroves are plants that grow in estuary area which one of the main functions of mangrove forest is to absorb and save carbon. Solok Buntu River is the mangrove area inside of the National Sembilang Park which houses Avicennia marina as the dominant species. One of the ways to decrease the global warming effect is to protect the mangrove forest. The purpose of this research was to analyze the total above ground biomass and carbon stock of Avicennia marina in Solok Buntu River. This study was done in March 2016. Data were obtained using the transect method with square plots of 10x10 m2 and 5x5 m2. The estimation of above ground biomass used allometric from Dharmawan and Siregar (2008) for seedling level and Komiyama et al. (2005) for tree level. Based on results, the existing mangrove species in Solok Buntu River are the Avicennia alba, A. marina, A. officinalis, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora apiculata, Excoearia agalloca, and Nypa frutican. Among those species, A. marina was the most dominant in the area in terms of seedling and tree level with species density of 1320 ind/ha and 1920 ind/ha. The total above ground biomass in Solok Buntu area was 409,88 ton/ha. While the total carbon stock and CO2 sequestration of A. marina were 192,65 ton/ha and 707,01 ton/ha.
