- Background. Several studies found that depression is often experienced by osteoarthritic patients. The symptoms experienced by osteoarthritic patients can hinder their ability to perform daily activities. The abrupt change in lifestyle is one of the risk factor for depression. Further, depression can also be accompanied with somatic and cognitive changes that are able to affect the quality of life of individual. The declining quality of life can also affect the patient’s depression rate and indirectly hinder the treatment process. This research aims to understand the depression rate and quality of life of osteoarthritic patients in Medical Rehabilitation Installation RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Methods. This is an observational descriptive research. This research used Beck’s Depression Inventory-II as a questionnaire to assess depression rate and World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF validated in Bahasa Indonesia. Subject of research is chosen using consecutive sampling, which entails searching for osteoarthritic patients that fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria until the amount of sample needed is obtained. Results. The population of this research is 69 osteoarthtritic patients in Medical Rehabilitation Installation RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in October 2017. The result shows that significant amount of osteoarthritic patients have minimal depression symptoms (68,1%) and have moderate quality of life (91,3%). Conclusion. Osteoarthtritic patients in Medical Rehabilitation Installation RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang mostly have minimal depression symptoms and moderate quality of life.
