The high level of mangrove diversity in Banyuasin Estuary and Musi Estuary needs to be monitored to gain knowledge about the density area, zonation and also the mangrove varieties in both of estuaries. The objective of this research was to analyze the rate of Landsat 8 abilities in distinguishing the mangrove vegetation using transformation index to determine mangrove zonation and distribution in the year of 2013 and 2018. This research has been conducted on October 2018 in Banyuasin district. The result indicated that Landsat 8 could determine mangrove zonation up to 2 mangrove zonation class only. The zonation classes are Avicennia-Sonneratia-Nypa and Rhizophora-Bruguiera. The mangrove distribution were classified as rare, moderate and dense level.
