  • Seed invigoration through priming might able to increase the rice vigorousness at submergence condition in order to improve direct-seeded rice (DSR) in which conducted by most of farmers in swampy land – tidal swamp land in South Sumatera. The aims of this research were to identify the varieties and priming treatment techniques on rice in order to boost vigorous seedling on early growth in submergence (anaerobic) as well as drought condition. The research was conducted at green house and at the plant physiology laboratory, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture Sriwijaya University, on October 2015 till February 2016. The experimental method used was split-split plot design with 3 factors i.e. water soil treatments, varieties, and priming- which were replicated 3 times. The result showed that hydro priming gave good response on the parameters being observed i.e. plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, root and shoot dried weight. While, the lowest response for plant height, number of leaf, leaf area, root and shoot dried weight were found on un-primed. Rather at water depth 10 cm above ground surface, Inpara 9 and Ciherang with Hydro-priming showed better response for the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, leaf greenness level, root and shoot dried weight. Inpara 9 with osmopriming response on drought condition, plant height and number of leaves were higher compared to other priming treatments at 7 day after seeding (DAS) and with hydro-priming, plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, root and shoot dried weight was higher than other priming treatments at 14 DAS. Response of Ciherang on drought condition showed that by hydro priming was higher than other priming treatments for plant height, number of leaves, root and shoot dried weight at 7 DAS and 14 DAS. Priming tended to boost plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, root and shoot dried weight.
